what could be more delicious than connecting our families and having too much fun?

a change of heart.
says debbie, “it doesn't take a parent to see our world is a mess, or that our children are facing bigger challenges than we ever did. there is no greater joy than family joy; no greater peace than knowing our children are happy and our family is alright. so let's use the gifts God blessed us with to share what we've learned as mothers and daughters, and help one another make sure every child on this planet reaches their fullest, healthiest, happiest, most confident potential."
so, that is what is cooking here.
feeding our family's soul. transforming things like 'sibling rivalry' into chivalry. honoring children's dreams and, oh-the-awesome food! definitely delish! the Pecan Pie Brownies, German Chocolate Everything, Tortilla Soup, and Bacon Cheddar Meatloaf are customer-picks.

debbie’s aim is to inspire women to pull out their mixing bowl, and lead their family’s journey to sweeter harmony.

“Every parent on the planet should read this cookbook. It will change their lives.” ~ Martin Krueger, Owner, LearningRX

“I'm a cookbook collector so I bought it for the recipes which are great, just like Debbie's restaurants. What I want to share is that this cookbook is more than a cookbook. It has completely changed the way I see my daughter. I bought 3 more copies—for my daughter, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law. There is so much in here to love. Don't be surprised when this book goes straight to the top of the New York Times Best Sellers list.” ~ D. Samon
“This is one cookbook you'll never see in a garage sale. You will read it again and again. I absolutely love Debbie's style. She reminds me of Erma Bombeck.” ~ Janice Ernest, Chief Editor/CEO, While U Wait Magazine

“What a powerful testimony. I drive around with this cookbook in my car!” ~ Leslee Huggins, Diplomate of the Academy of Pediatric Dentists
“I’m 86 years old. I'm a cookbook collector and I have never seen one written like this. All of the recipes I've tried turn out great, but it's the way she wrote the instructions that are simply brilliant. I bought 5 copies for all of my children and now I’m coming back to buy copies for my grandchildren. I wish I would have had a book like this when I was raising my kids. Not because of the food which is great--but because of the story Debbie tells about family relationships.” ~ R. Bell

“This cookbook has already made me a better father and I’m not even a parent yet. I've never owned a cookbook where I actually wanted to cook everything in it, and know that I could. I think it's great.” ~ D. Elbert
“Whenever we hear laughter in the lobby, we know they’re reading this cookbook.” ~ Dr. James Fowler
“I think every parent can relate to that tug telling us something isn't right, and I think God gives us that instinct so we know where to turn. I think she's got a powerful message for families." ~ Jim Huggins, PhD, MS, CEO/Producer New Shepherd Films, LLC

“My son is 6 years old. My husband passed away 2 years ago. I opened this cookbook and couldn’t stop reading it. I saw my life in every story. I was crying but not because I was sad, but I was so grateful. I never considered life was any different until reading this book. I don’t usually buy cookbooks but I liked watching Debbie on t.v. This cookbook has completely changed my relationship with my son. I noticed a difference the very next day. We've already made the Cherry Vanilla Muffin Cakes and they turned out alright, too!” ~ D. Crone
“I think what Debbie has shared is going to help a lot of families reconnect and heal because of the fact when you have these children, no one tells you what to do. They don’t come with instruction booklets. But we all have things we’re dealing with and it helps to know if Debbie did this, so can I.” ~ V. Sheers

MINEOLA, TEXAS—Mutterfly Press: Mutterfly Press announced today the release of its first Mixing Bowl Journey cookbook, I Overcooked My Family But the Muffins Turned Out Alright! Award-winning restaurateur, author, and mother, Debbie Davis combines food and wit to inspire audiences to pull out their mixing bowls and lead their families on a journey of transformation. There are over 75 family-style recipes prepared quicker and easier sprinkled throughout this powerfully focused, sometimes hilarious cookbook. But, it is her "Erma Bombeck meets the kitchen" poignant recipe for reverse engineering what she always hoped for, "a happy, connected family--not a perfect one," that has become her most popular dish.
Debbie is the kind of cook more apt to toss things out of her mixing bowl than into it. Her aim is to share ingredients that bring families beyond the dinner table.
"You just can't help but feel good when she's on the air. Our website traffic climbed monthly when she was hosting her food segments." ~ Mike DeLier, former General Manager, KETK/NBC, Tyler, Texas.

Debbie has the chops to prove her purpose. Her career spans food show host, motivational speaker, and toy inventor. Her children's games were licensed to famed toy companies Parker Bros., and Milton Bradley.
Throughout her career she has appeared on HGTV, the Discovery Channel, Lifetime, TNN, PBS, QVC, HSN, ABC, NBC, and CBS.
"I wish I could bottle her energy and put it in every one of my 650 stores throughout the United States and Canada." ~ Jim Neustadt, former Vice-President Marketing & Sales, Michaels Stores, Inc.

She created Mutterfly Press because she wanted to help other families. Mutterfly Press is a new inspirational cookbook publishing company dedicated to producing high quality Mixing Bowl Journeys with recipes and powerfully focused insight that equip parents and empower children. I Overcooked My Family But the Muffins Turned Out Alright!, is the first in a series of five OVERCOOKED-family cookbooks.

Debbie and her husband Ken reside in east Texas. They own a couple 1st Place People's Choice restaurants in historic Mineola, Texas—East Texas Burger Co., and La Waffalata. They are blessed with two children who love to eat. Daughter Marissa is producing children's videos, and son Kyle is a musician finishing high school and writing music. Their new granddaughter, Charleigh is on a mission of discovery. Son-in-law Mitchell is probably the inspiration behind her OVERCOOKED in-law cookbook coming 2013, but she's not saying. So it's just a hunch.

Cookies for a Koz

sincere thanks to Roberta Koz Wilson for allowing me to share her mother's legacy in my cookbook. she and her brother, Dave Koz--a platinum-selling artist and humanitarian founded Cookies for a Koz to honor their mom who, amongst other things, is a magical testimony of how a mother's influence impacts lives beyond our children. Cookies for a Koz donates 10% of the proceeds to Starlight Children’s Foundation; their mother's favorite charity. Perfect holiday gift!!
Chris Gardner/Pursuit of Happyness; National Fatherhood Initiative

...who knew he was President of the National Fatherhood Initiative? not me...didn't bring my reading glasses...too vain to wear them at such a fancy-shmancy gala. so when he closed his speech with “someone in the audience is very dedicated to breaking cycles in families,” guess who almost fell out of her chair? even if he was referring to 5 other people, his standing in All Saints Episcopal School gymnasium speaking from his heart, gave me courage to take another baby step.

good old fashioned family fun + sock puppets sewn by his mom to benefit his sister...yeah, i needed a ventriloquist that night to push me over the edge: leaving my food show to write "a cookbook? celebrating mom-power?" a few suits who meant well didn't see the connection, but that inner voice kept telling me it was right.
Creative Pics

creative souls who inspire me to trust my kids unique gifts and talents. special thanks to the young, vibrant photographers who jumped in and shared awesome captures of food and family seen here and throughout the cookbook--Kelly Christine Photography and Films, Tiffany Honea Photography, and Glow in the Dark Creative Media.
3 amish brothers from canada singing about the power of family traditions inspired me. call me old fashioned.

making our world a more delicious place.
